The National Police Commission has decided to dismiss former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director and Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Nilantha Jayawardena from the police service.

This decision follows a disciplinary inquiry which found Jayawardena guilty of failing to take appropriate action based on intelligence received prior to the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The Commission, chaired by retired High Court Judge Lalith Ekanayake, met yesterday (18) and took the decision after reviewing the inquiry report submitted to it.

At the time of the Easter Sunday attacks, Jayawardena was serving as the Director of the State Intelligence Service.
