The Colombo Additional Magistrate, Harshana Kekunawela, ordered on yesterday (12 December) that a notice be issued to the director of the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) to appear in court, following an eight-year delay in submitting a report related to a mobile phone containing obscene footages seized by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The CID informed the court that a suspect was arrested in Puttalam in 2016 for possessing and sharing obscene videos online. Despite multiple court directives to the UCSC to provide a forensic report on the suspect’s phone, no report has been submitted for eight years, despite multiple reminders.

Considering the CID’s request, the magistrate issued the notice for the director to appear in court and explain the matter. The case is scheduled to be called again on 25 May 2025.
