A two-year-old pet cat named Tutu has amazed many by making a 72-kilometre solo journey back to its old home in Ridigama—22 days after it went missing.

Tutu belonged to Inspector Hemantha Subasinghe, the former Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Ridigama Police. Following his recent transfer to Mannar, Subasinghe had relocated to a private residence in Hemmathagama, Mawanella, taking Tutu with him.

However, just days after the move, on 6 July, the cat vanished without a trace. Despite extensive efforts to locate her, there was no sign of the feline—until 27 July, when a police officer spotted Tutu outside Subasinghe’s former official residence in Ridigama.

It is believed that Tutu travelled on foot, passing through several towns including Mawanella, Rambukkana, and Mawathagama, in her determined journey back to familiar territory.

Inspector Subasinghe expressed his astonishment at the cat’s feat, noting that she appeared emaciated and weak—likely from the long journey and lack of food. (Courtesy: Dinamina)
