The Horana Urban Council has postponed its sessions for 14 days following a dispute among United National Party (UNP) members.
The conflict arose during the council meeting held today (12), when both a newly appointed councillor and a councillor who had resigned earlier were present.
The dispute stems from the resignation of a UNP councillor on 1 July. The National Election Commission subsequently appointed a replacement and sent the appointment to the council. However, during today’s session, the councillor who resigned attempted to withdraw his resignation and reclaim his position.
The disagreement led to a heated exchange among UNP councillors, prompting the Chairman of the Urban Council to suspend proceedings and postpone the sessions for 14 days.
