In the wake of the indefinite postal strike, police have been deployed to the Central Mail Exchange in Colombo to ensure security and maintain operations.
The islandwide postal strike launched by trade unions has entered its fifth consecutive day today (22), with no resolution reached between the parties.
Meanwhile, the striking unions announced that they would not participate in discussions under the conditions proposed by Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, who is also mediating in the matter.
Addressing Parliament yesterday, Minister Jayatissa reiterated that the government will not withdraw the decisions on mandatory fingerprinting for attendance and overtime regulations, both of which are among the key concerns of the striking postal workers.
The strike, which began at midnight on 17 August, is based on 19 demands put forward by postal trade unions and continues to affect services nationwide
