Ajantha Rupasari Herath, wife of former North Central Province Governor Maheepala Herath, has been issued a written order instructing her to demolish and remove a hotel and other structures illegally built on 60 perches of land within the Perimiyankulama reservoir within one month.

Maheepala Herath has been accused of misusing his powers by constructing the hotel and other buildings under his wife’s name.

The Irrigation Department has commenced the process of demarcating reservoir in the Anuradhapura District, in line with a government policy decision.

During the demarcation of the Perimiyankulama reservoir, it was discovered that the hotel and buildings had been constructed without any legal authorisation, prompting the demolition order.

The demarcation process has now been completed, with boundary stones placed to clearly mark the protected area.
