Sri Lanka’s overall inflation, measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), rose to 1.5% in August 2025, up from 0.7% recorded in July, according to the latest data released by the Department of Census and Statistics.
Food inflation climbed to 2.9% in August compared to 2.2% in July, while year-on-year inflation in the non-food category moved up to 0.4% from -0.6% in July.
Food commodities contributed 1.26% to overall inflation in August.
The NCPI for all items stood at 207.2 index points in August, reflecting a decrease of 1.1 index points compared to July 2025.
