The Fundamental Rights petition filed challenging the appointment of High Court Judge Ranga Dissanayake as Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption was withdrawn before the Supreme Court today (23).
The petition had been filed by a group including Ven. Wewelduwagyanaprabha Thero, Chief Incumbent of Udawalawa Soma Viharaya. The petition sought a declaration nullifying the Constitutional Council’s recommendation to the President and the subsequent appointment of Dissanayake.
The case was taken up before a three-judge Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Priyasath Dep, Justices Mahinda Samayawardhena, and Sampath Abeykoon.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioners, counsel informed court that they wished to withdraw the petition. The bench granted permission for withdrawal and accordingly dismissed the petition.
