Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hemal Prashantha, Director of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), has been transferred in connection with an ongoing investigation against him, according to sources at Police Headquarters, The Morning newspaper reported.

Prashantha is reportedly under probe for allegedly misusing Rs. 5 million allocated for informants, administrative lapses, and failing to conduct proper drug raids over a three-month period.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has already launched an investigation into the alleged misuse of funds.

On 25 September, approval was sought from the National Police Commission to transfer the PNB Director. The Commission granted approval on Wednesday (15), following which the transfer was implemented, Police Headquarters sources confirmed.

SSP H.M.C.P. Herath has been appointed as the new Director of the PNB.
