The Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has accepted the sincere apology tendered by two officials of the Consumer Affairs and Construction Industry Authority over their conduct during a COPE meeting, according to a statement issued by the committee.
The incident occurred during a COPE meeting held on October 8, 2025, convened to examine the Authority’s audited reports for 2022 and 2023 and its current performance. COPE said serious concerns arose after one official attended the meeting in violation of the prescribed dress code, while both officials left the meeting midway without obtaining prior approval from the committee chair.
The matter was treated as a breach of parliamentary privilege, following which the two officials were summoned before the Parliamentary Committee on Privileges on February 17, 2026.
COPE said the officials acknowledged the seriousness of their actions and offered a sincere apology, which was accepted by the Privileges Committee.
The committee further emphasised that all individuals appearing before parliamentary committees are expected to maintain the highest standards of discipline and conduct and comply with parliamentary procedures at all times.
