The trial against 25 accused in connection with the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks concluded before the Special High Court Permanent Trial-at-Bar in Colombo, with the verdict scheduled to be delivered on 22 September.
The Attorney General had filed more than 23,000 charges against the 25 accused, including Naufer Maulavi, over their alleged involvement in the coordinated suicide bombings carried out on Easter Sunday, 21 April 2019.
The charges include conspiracy to commit murder, aiding and abetting terrorist acts, collecting arms and explosives, and facilitating the attacks targeting several churches and luxury hotels.
The case was heard before a three-judge High Court Trial-at-Bar without a jury due to the complexity of the case, the volume of evidence and its national security implications.
The trial was conducted on a day-to-day basis.
The Easter Sunday attacks targeted churches and luxury hotels in Colombo, Negombo and Batticaloa, killing more than 260 people and injuring hundreds of others.
Following the conclusion of proceedings, the court fixed 22 September to deliver its verdict in the case.
