The administration of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine has issued a clarification regarding a video circulating on social media, which allegedly depicts a ragging incident involving two groups of students.

According to an official statement released on November 4 by the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, the incident was not a case of ragging but a personal dispute between two groups of students.

The statement noted that the confrontation occurred on November 2 between first-year and senior students.

The university administration further alleged that the video had been edited and photographs altered before being circulated on social media, portraying the personal dispute as a ragging incident and damaging the university’s reputation.

It also confirmed that academic activities for first-year and second-year students are continuing as usual, while efforts are being made to maintain a safe, ragging-free university environment.

Meanwhile, both an internal university investigation and a police investigation have been initiated to identify those involved and take appropriate legal and disciplinary action.
