Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) Gemunu Wijeratne said that the Government should prioritise the country’s public transport system even above the education and health sectors.

Addressing a media briefing in Colombo, Wijeratne argued that the development of an efficient public transport network was essential for national progress.

He maintained that no country could achieve sustainable development without a strong and reliable public transport system and urged authorities to place greater emphasis on improving transport services.

Wijeratne further stated that investing in public transport would generate long-term economic and social benefits while improving mobility for the public.
