A fresh controversy has arisen surrounding the whereabouts of Watareka Wijitha Thera who has earned the ire of the Bodu Bala Sena after the incident at Nippon Hotel Colombo.
The BBS today alleged that Wijitha Thero was in hiding at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce which is headed by Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, who, according to the BBS, is promoting 'Muslim Extremism' in Sri Lanka.
The BBS threatened to surround the Ministry of Industry and Commerce where Wijitha Thera was in hiding.
However, a spokesman from the Ministry confirmed 'Asian Mirror' that Wijitha Thera was not in hiding at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. He said the ministry was not aware of the whereabouts of Wijitha Thera. The attempts to contact Watareka Wijitha Thera this morning did not bear fruit.
A protest was held yesterday by the Bodu Bala Sena against Wijitha Thera before the Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha where Wijitha Thera is a member representing the ruling UPFA.
Due to the protest, the police escorted PS member monk Vijitha Thera from the meeting hall of the Pradeshiay Sabha despite a tense situation erupted between the protesters and the police.
