As Jayalalithaa is a strong votary of a separate Eelam, the possibility of the elections throwing up the AIADMK supremo as the next prime minister has caught their imagination. Hence, the Diaspora groups are batting for a rich harvest for the AIADMK in the elections.
It is indeed significant that even MDMK leader and a prominent LTTE apologist Vaiko, once a darling of the diaspora, failed to earn their support.
“Even the next government at the Centre could be headed by Jayalalithaa, who remains stead-fast in her support for Eelam Tamils. Hence, the Tamils should overwhelmingly support AIADMK and strengthen her hands,” argues ‘Tamils for Obama’, a US-based online group of Lankan Tamils. In its view, the CM has been consistent in her stance on Eelam issue, economic embargo on Colombo, ensuring accountability for genocide, among other things. “It is an election of crucial importance and the Tamil brethren should make a conscious decision without frittering away an opportunity,” appeal noted, ENS said
