The United National Party won the Colombo District with 640,743 votes (53%) while the UPFA received 474,063 votes.

Meanwhile the JVP won 81,391 votes.

The UNP won 11 seats and the UPFA won 7. The JVP won one seat.

The Democratic Party and the Bodu Jana Peramuna failed to win any seats in the district.
