Former UPFA MP Premalal Jayasekara, who is in remand prison accused of murder, led the preferential votes in Ratnapura with 154,980 preferences.
Former Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi came at a distant second among the UPFA candidates.
The UNP list was led by Thalatha Athukarala with 145,828 preferences.
