The Cabinet Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara stated that he accepted a ministerial portfolio in the National Government according to a decision taken by the SLFP Central Committee.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, he said that according to the election results, no party can form a government alone.

Therefore the SLFP and the UNP agreed to introduce the ‘national government concept' and establish a government for two years, Jayasekara said, adding that he accepted the given ministerial portfolio respecting that decision.

Jayasekara asserted that certain media reports have misguided the general public saying that he would never join the national government. He only said that he would like to sit in the opposition as he did for 13 years, he stated. 

However he is still a member of the SLFP, Jayasekara said, adding that he does not intend to join the UNP even in the future.
