UNP MPs To Visit Norochcholai Within Next Two Weeks

A group of UNP Parliamentarians will visit the Norochcholai coal power on a fact finding mission within the next two weeks, UNP Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera, who headed the MP delegation to Hambanthota, told 'Asian Mirror'.

He also stated that the party is now in the process of obtaining approval and clearance for the visit from the government. "A large number of UNP back benchers in Parliament," Perera said, "will take part in the Norochcholai visit."

"In addition, Parliamentarians and elected representatives of the area have also been informed of the visit." Perera said. The UNP has two Parliamentarians representing Puttalam District namely Palitha Range Bandara and Niroshan Perera.

"If the government and the Chinese company have nothing to hide about the Norochcholai plant, they will surely facilitate the visit," the Parliamentarian added.

Meanwhile the Parliamentarian also said the interim report of the fact finding visit to Hambanthota - which was marred by a commotion at the entrance of the Mattala International Airport - would be presented to Parliament this week. A similar report will be presented to Parliament after the Norochcholai visit too.
