Sri Lanka Freedom Party Dehiwela Electorate Chief Organizer Danasiri Amaratunga, who is a close ally of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, has joined in congratulating President Maithripala Sirisena for protecting the dignity of war heroes.

Large cut-outs of the President was seen in Dehiwela with a congratulatory message, as part of a campaign by the SLFP in different parts of the country. However, unlike in other cases, the cut-outs in Dehiwela did not have an accompanying picture of the SLFP Organizer of the electorate.

While Sirisena’s allies have been commending on what they call diplomatic victories in New York and Geneva, Rajapaksa allies are accusing the President of betraying the country by co-sponsoring the UNHRC Resolution on Sri Lanka. Amaratunga’s public acknowledgement of Sirisena’s ‘success’ is interesting in this backdrop.
