Bodu Bala Sena organization, led by Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera, has now declared war on Ravana Balaya, another hardcore Sinhala-Buddhist organization led by Iththakande Saddhathissa Thera. 

Bodu Bala sena accuses 'Ravana Balaya' of being a "cat's paw" of Minister Wimal Weerawansa who is critical of the Bodu Bala Sena organization and its leadership. The BBS says Ravana Balaya is being used by Weerawansa to disrupt the "renaissance" of what they term as the Sinhala-Buddhist movement of the country.

The flash-point between the Bodu Bala Sena and Ravana Balaya was the latter's stance on the special Police unit, set up by the President, to look into matters concerning religions. 

While the Bodu Bala Sena welcomed and commended the move, 'Ravana Balaya' gave an ultimatum to the government demanding it to dissolve the Police unit within one month. "If not", the Ravana Balaya said, "we will occupy the Religious Affairs Ministry." 

There are several hardcore Sinhala - Buddhist organizations operating in the country among which the Bodu Bala Sena is the largest. Although these organizations operated separately on the surface, there was a common understanding between them of the 'battle fronts' of each other. This is the first time, the BBS is openly criticizing another Sinhala-Buddhist hardcore group due to differences of opinion.
