The already strained relations between the government and the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna have taken another turn for worse with the Presidential Investigations Unit starting an inquiry on institutes that come under the Housing and Construction Ministry handled by JNP Leader Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
Officials of the Investigations Unit have started an inquiry on the National Housing Development Authority whose chairman is Jayantha Samaraweera, a stalwart of Weerawansa's party. The inquiry will look into alleged malpractices and misappropriations that took place at the Authority under Weerawansa's watch.

“I am not frightened to face an investigation. However, its timing is very intriguing. If there were any allegations or complaints against me or my ministry, they should have been probed then and there. Not when I and my party are expressing different views from that of those in the leadership,” Minister Weerawansa had told the Sunday Times newspaper today. He said he had been telling senior UPFA leaders there was an “imperative need for us to discuss issues affecting the people. However, only the views of a few are being taken into consideration before decisions are made. The negative sides are not looked at,” he had lamented.
Meanwhile. Weerawansa has sent another letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa urging him to take immediate measures to bring down milk powder prices of the local market on the grounds that prices of the international market have gone down drastically. Prior to the letter, Weerawansa's party adopted 12 resolutions at the national convention of the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna stating the party's support to the government would depend of the government's inclination to implement the JNP resolutions.
