Supermarkets Banned From Selling Meat During Vesak

The Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs has banned the sale of meat in supermarkets during the Vesak period (May 14 and May 15). 

The Ministry has also issued orders to close all liquor shops, betting centers casinos,night clubs and slaughter slaughter houses during Vesak. Meat shops also will be closed during the two days. The ban on sale of liquor will also be applied for super markets across the country. 
 
However, no ban has been imposed on meat products such as meat balls, sausages etc and "short eats" that contain meat. Also, the ban is not applicable to sale of fish and eggs.  
 
When contacted by Asian Mirror, Police said it would take strict action against those who defy orders issued by the Ministry of Public Administration.
