RIP Jayalalithaa!

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her party AIADMK will lose clout in the Narendra Modi government as the BJP and its allies have  won 336 seats out of 543 in the Indian Parliament.

That means the BJP led government will not have to depend on Jayalalithaa's support to form a government next week. In that sense, Jayalithaa will lose her "bargaining power" significantly where the policies and the way forward of India's central government are concerned.

According to election results that have been released so far, AIADMK led by Jayalalitha have won 34 seats out of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu. Although she has achieved a significant victory in Tamil Nadu, Narendra's Modi's sweeping win has belittled Jayalalithaa's performance in Tamil Nadu.

India's Congress Party which relied heavily on the 'Rahul Gandhi factor' has suffered one of the worst defeats in its history since 1947. Congress Party Leader Sonia Gandhi's son Rahul Gandhi whose father was also a former Prime Minister of India came into the equation with the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty which made a huge impact on India's national level politics over the past few decades.

With Narendra Modi's victory, a new era has dawned in India.

Modi was born on 17 September 1950 to a family of grocers community, in Vadnagar in Mehsana district in Gujarat, India. He was born into an upper caste “Vaishya” family that is given title of “Modh”, for being rich. Modi belongs to a Vaishya sub-caste the “Modh Ghanchi”, a microscopic minority found only in Gujarat. He helped his father sell tea at Vadnagar railway station when a child and as a teenager he ran a tea stall with his brother near a bus terminus. The BJP Leader  completed his schooling in Vadnagar,

Modi is not from the elitist circle of the Indian  society and he represents the grassroots level of India whch covers a large majority of the country's population. With his traditional Hindu background and links to the grassroots level, the country is expecting a 'new change' from him in terms of socio-economic policies. However, it should also be noted that the Muslims of India, whose population stands at 150 million, view Modi and the BJP with a modicum of suspicion.

The BJP is to formally elect Modi as the next Prime Minister of India on Sunday, Indian media reported.
