President Mahinda Rajapaksa has congratulated India's Prime Minister elect Narendra Modi for his resounding victory at the Lokh Sabha elections which spanned over a month, government sources said.
The President has also invited Modi for a state visit to Sri Lanka after the formation of the new government. This is the first official invitation received by Modi for a state visit after being elected as India's next Prime Minister.

Modi will assume office next week as India's new Prime Minister, the Indian media reports said.
The BJP and its allies, led by Narendra Modi, won 336 seats out of 443 seats in the Lokh Sabha.
When contacted by Asian Mirror, a senior spokesman of the Sri Lankan government Modi's victory will pave the way for Sri Lanka to develop a fresh strategic cooperation with india.
