Mahanayake of the Amarapura Chapter Ven. Dauldena Gnanissara Thera has issued a special statement urging everyone to bring violence to an end.
"The situation in Beruwala, Aluthgama and Dharga town at the moment is quite tragic and appalling. As Buddhist we have lived in peace and harmony with all religions and races in this country. If there is a problem, it should be solved amicably through discussion. There is no reason to cause damage to lives and property. I reiterate that all races, including the Sinhalese, Muslims and Tamils should live in peace and harmony in this country," the Mahanayake Thera said in a hand-written statement.
The statement was issued in light of the recent attacks in Beruwala, Aluthgama and Dharga town. This is the first time a Mahanayake Thera has issued a statement calling for an end to violence.
