In the wake of recent violent clashes between Sinhala-Buddhist and Muslim groups, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said he would appoint a "high-level" panel to look into disturbances.
The President's announcement, which came as a Twitter post, was made just few hours after the Nolimit store in Panadura was burnt down. The Twitter post appeared in all three languages on the official Twitter account of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The composition of the "high-level" panel is not yet disclosed. Also the government is yet to announce the scope of operations of the panel and its mandate.
Last month, a special Police team was appointed by the government to look into religious related matters. However, when the violence broke out, the 'Special Police Team' hardly made any presence, not only on the ground, but also in the media space.
