General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena, Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera is presently being questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over clashes that took place in Aluthgama, Beruwala and Dharga Town.
BBS Chief Executive Officer Dilantha Vithanage told Asian Mirror that Gnanasara Thera visited the CID headquarters at 1 pm today after the CID informed him that they wanted to record a statement.
The CID launched an inquiry into the Aluthgama incident nearly two weeks after the clash broke out in the area.
It was widely alleged that the speech made by Gnanasara Thera incited violence in Beruwala, Aluthgama and Dharga Town. However, Gnanasara Thera has distanced himself from the allegation stating that the BBS had no connection with the attacks against Muslims.
Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senerathne, addressing a press conference a few days ago, stated that law should be implemented against the perpetrators of Aluthgama violence, regardless of their status. He also told local media that the CID had informed him about the inquiry into Gnanasara Thera's speech.
