Kurunegala Mayor Gamini Peramunage has allegedly forced a Deputy Principal of Kurunegala Maliyadeva College to kneel down inside the Mayor’s office for punishing a student.
It was reported that the Mayor has summoned the Deputy Principal to his office after he got to know that a student had been punished by Deputy Principal. The punished student, reportedly, is the son of the Mayor.

Asian Mirror also learns that the Mayor had ordered the school principal to send the Deputy Principal to his office to inquire about the incident.
Speaking To Asian Mirror, Gamini Peramunage, Mayor of Kurunegala, completely distanced himself from the incident saying he had involvement in the controversy.
“This is a cooked up story to tarnish my image. I am not even aware of an incident of that that. I think my political opponents are behind this,” the Mayor told ‘Asian Mirror’.
When contacted by us, a spokesman of the Maliyadeva College Old Boys Association confirmed the story saying they were aware of the incident.
He also added that the OBA was contemplating the possibility of taking stern action in protest of the Mayor’s act.
Last year, Ananda Sarath Kumara, a UPFA provincial councilor of the North Western Province, was arrested on June 15 last year for allegedly punishing a school teacher at a school in Nawagattegama by making her kneel down after she reportedly warned Kumara’s daughter regarding her uniform.
