Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has endorsed Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara’s statement in Beruwala and said the latter’s job role is no different from that of a “Butler”.

“The present government has turned the Treasury Secretary and the Finance Ministry into a Butler. But the kitchen belongs to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The IMF makes various dishes for the regime and the President,” addressing a public meeting in Rambukkana.

“The IMF is making dishes for the regime with the money belonging to tax payers of Sri Lanka. The Finance Ministry has no say over this. Dr. Jayasundara is only serving those dishes to the President,” the Opposition Leader has said.

At the meeting, Wickremesinghe has strongly criticized the economic policy of the government and the statistics presented by the Finance Ministry.

At the workshop which was held in Beruwala for ruling party MPs, Dr. Jayasundara said he was only the servant of the government- just like the “Butler” at White House, who is helping the US President in his daily affairs.

However, MP Uditha Lokubandara, who was present at the workshop raised a question over the statement asking whether the ‘Butler’ would ensure his survival at the expense of the “President" and the "White House”.
