Army Out Of School And Civil Events In North - TNA To Pass A Fresh Resolution

The TNA led Northern Provincial Council is to adopt a resolution stopping the military from being invited to participate in school and civil events in the Northern Province.

Uthayan newspaper, owned by a TNA Parliamentarian reported that Chairman of NPC C.V.J. Sivagnanam told media about the resolution following a meeting with the French ambassador. The NPC Chairman had told journalists that the resolution was being discussed and drafted within the Council leadership.

While saying that military presence in the North is a hindrance to freedom of expression, the NPC Chairman has said the NPC is trying to regain control over the schools under its administration.

A few weeks ago, the NPC passed another resolution demanding direct air links between India and the North. The government, in response, said it had no plans to facilitate direct flights between the Northern province and India.

However, Asian Mirror learns that the government will appoint a new Governor for the Northern Province in the next few weeks, following Major General (retd) G.A. Chandrasiri’s retirement.
