An official from Sri Lanka Cricket told Asian Mirror a short while ago that Sri Lankan spinner Sachithra Senanayake has been banned from international cricket with immediate effect.
He has been banned after his bowling action was found to be over legal limits accepted by the International Cricket Council (ICC)
After being reported in England, Senanayake underwent testing at the Cardiff Metropolitan University on June 29 and was allowed to play until the results were known.
With this decision, the Sri Lankan authorities will be compelled to remove Senanayake from the national cricket team until he corrects his action.
Two days ago, a local expert, speaking to the Sri Lankan newspaper "Daily Mirror' said, there was a strong likelihood that the laboratory tests would prove Sri Lanka’s star spinner Sachitra Senanayake to be a degree or two above the legally permitted 15-degree allowance of straightening the bowling arm.
The expert who wished to remain anonymous said that all local expert analysts who reviewed footage of the recently concluded ODI series against England with the aid of technical equipment and computer technology that are available came to the same conclusion that several of Senanayake’s deliveries could tip the scales of the legal limit.
