North Western province Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has tendered an apology to the public regarding the fight which occured between him and UNP MP Harin Fernando at the Derana 'Wada Pitiya' political talk show last week.
The Chief Minister has made this remark while issuing a special media statement over the incident.
With this apology the Chief Minister has also said he is deeply disappointed with the way he behaved in front of the mass media. He added that being the Chief Minister and the Education Minister of the North Western province, this is not the type of example he should set for the youth.
"In the clash that took place during the Derana TV programme, what I regret the most is the manner in which a Parliamentarian and a Chief Minister representing the government behaved in front of the public. I sincerely tender an apology to the citizen of Sri Lanka and my fellow people of the North Western province for that moment of weakness," Jayasekara said.
Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara also said that he would feel the pain of this incident each time he preaches the students and when addressing the student community as a whole in the future.
The UNP Parliamentarian alleged that Jayasekera attempted to bite and scratch him during the brawl. Sources from Derana TV told Asian Mirror that due to the clash between the two politicians, three clip-on microphones belonging to the TV station have been damaged.
