Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake said that if someone can prove that the Rajapaksa government has not brought down the national debt percentage, he will leave his post with immediate effect.

He made this statement yesterday while addressing a gathering at a road refurbishment event in Udunuwara.

The Minister made an open challenge to anyone who could prove him wrong to come forth and dos so. Adding to that he said 'when we took over the government the debt percentage was 106% off the country's annual income, but we were able to bring it down significantly over time.'

The Minister finished his speech by promising the public that the government would bring the national debt percentage down to a 65% by 2016, as promised in 'Mahinda Chinthanaya'.
