Karu Demands Immediate Action On Upul Jayasuriya's 'Followers'

UNP Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jaysuriya issued a statement to media expressing his concern over the incident where Sri Lanka Bar Association Chairman Upul Jaysuriya lodged a complaint to the Kurunduwatta police saying that his vehicle was tailed by unidentified vehicles.

'During times like this the word 'democracy' which is being thrown around a lot in the modern society comes under question. Such acts are not acceptable within a civilized society and if such incidents continues to prevail it reflects the type of 'democracy' the Sri Lankan government practice', he said.

On an earlier note Upul Jayasuriya made an aggressive statement regarding the banning of NGO press conferences by the government and added to that his displeasure in the way the government handled the Aluthgama situation. He claimed that the situation could have been prevented if the government took necessary steps initially to disband the responsible organizations.

The parliamentarian also brought forward that the Bar Association Chairman has lodged complaints in the past because of threats and finally Karu Jayasuriya has requested the government to take this matter into consideration to take necessary steps to ensure the safety of Upul Jayasuriya.
