CJ Steps Down From The Bench Hearing Golden Key Case

Chief Justice Mohan Pieris today stepped down from the bench hearing the Golden Key case due to a derogatory letter sent to him and said that he made the move in the greater interest of court.

With the aim of expediting the Golden Key case filed by depositors, Supreme Court Chief Justice Mohan Peiris fixed a special hearing for the Golden Key Fundamental Rights Case on June 9th while issuing a warning that he will not entertain any more intervening petitions or revising orders already made by the court.

Back then he stated that the Court will take action if any party does not adhere to orders made by the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice stated that the court cannot be ‘budged with force’ and that despite the cry out, justice will prevail.

The party who sent the derogatory letter to the Chief Justice is not yet disclosed.

The Olden Key case also played a key role in the impeachment motion against former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.
