The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has still not responded to the 12 proposals presented by National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa on strengthening good governance and economic development in the country.
Weerawansa, while presenting the proposals said that the NFF’s support to the government would rely on the government’s response to the proposals.
The ruling party appointed a committee headed by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma to look into the proposals presented by the National Freedom Party and respond to their concerns.
The NFF sources told that the committee, which was appointed a few months ago, has still not contacted the National Freedom Front over their proposals.
However, the NFF has still not made any public statement over the silence of the ruling party over the 12 proposals, which were approved by the national convention of the Freedom Front.
However, the party last week claimed that SLFP, the main coalition partner of the UPFA, has violated the mutual agreement between the two parties by grating SLFP membership to a person who was facing a disciplinary inquiry from the National Freedom Front. The member was a former member of the Uva Provincial Council.
Pathma Udaya Shantha Gunasekera, Moneragala district leader of the NFF, threatened to contest separately for the Uva election if the SLFP granted membership to the party member.
