Sri Lanka Apologizes To Jayalalitha

The Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence has tendered an apology to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalitha Jayaram regarding the article about the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister which appeared on the Sri Lanka Defence website.

After the article appeared on the Sri Lanka defence website, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has written a complaint to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that "this sort of mimics are unacceptable."

The article also had with it a graphical portrayal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jayalalitha. The article was titled “How meaningful are Jayalalitha’s love letters to Narendra Modi?” appeared on the website www.defence.lk.

India strongly objected to an article on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha posted on the Sri Lankan defence ministry’s official website, forcing the island nation to remove the write-up and tender an apology.

“We extend an unqualified apology to the Hon. Prime Minister of India and Hon. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,” said a statement posted on the Lankan defence ministry website sometime later.

When this issue was taken up in the Indian Parliament, all the ministers of Tamil Nadu have lashed out at the Sri Lankan government saying that they do not accept such humor and insults.

The Indian High Commission in Colombo took up the matter with the Sri Lankan government and the article was later removed from the website.

However, after the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry tendered the apology the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu stated "despite the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry's apology, the damage had already been done."
