Asgiri Maha Nayaka Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera says that the Buddha Sasana is being destroyed under the present government.

He had made this observation yesterday during the 119th National Daham Pasal Day celebrations held at Matale. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne was also present on the occasion.

Addressing the Prime Minister, Buddharakkitha Thera has further said that “there are conspiracies against Buddhism in the country. As the Prime Minister, you cannot be unaware of these conspiracies.” He also mentioned that in the backdrop of elections there was a plan to suppress the proposed Buddha Sasana Protection Act.

The Most Venerable Thera also mentioned that according to a new circular, if a building is constructed within the property of a temple by government funds, the ownership of the building should go to the government. This has been informed to the temples in Central Province. The Mahanayaka Thera demanded an explanation on this matter from the Prime Minister.

The Mahanayake Thera of Asgiriya chapter also met representatives of the Bodu Bala Sena organization, including its General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera a few months ago.
