Dr. Lester James Peiris Stolen Award Found In Private Bus: Award ‘Disappeared’ From House On Day Of Funeral

 

The ‘Golden Peacock’ lifetime achievement award that was stolen from the late Dr. Lester James Peiris house on the day of his funeral was discovered in a private bus this morning.

Police media spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said the statue had been found abandoned on the overhead rack of a 177 private bus plying the Kollupitya-Kaduwela route.

The ‘Golden Peacock’ lifetime achievement award was presented to the late Dr. Lester James Peiris when his film ‘Gamperaliya’ won best feature at the New Delhi Film Festival in 1965.

It was stolen from his house during his funeral that was held with state honours at the Independence Square on May 2.
