Parliament To Reopen For Second Session Today: 16 SLFP MPs Will Sit In The Opposition

The parliament will be officially opening for second session today after President Maithripala Sirisena by Gazette issued on April 12 prorogued Parliament till May 8.

The parliament will ceremoniously open at 2. 15 pm today and will feature the national anthem, a 21 gun salute and an address by the President.

The government’s Policy Statement will also be presented to Parliament today, and is up for debate on May 10.

Meanwhile, the 16 SLFP MPs who left the government during the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, will from today, sit in the Opposition.
