President Nominates Nalin Jayalath Perera As His Candidate For Chief Justice Post: Name Sent To Constitutional Council

Supreme Court judge Nalin Jayalath Perera's name has been sent to the Constitutional Council by President Maithripala Sirisena. 

Perera is the 6th in seniority among 10 Supreme Court judges. 

He was appointed a Supreme Court judge by President Maithripala Sirisena in 2016. 

Sources from the council said no other names had been received by them so far. 

The final decision on the Chief Justice would be expected to be announced today after the Constitutional Council confirms the President's nomination. 

New members of the Consitutional Council were appointed yesterday for a three year term.
