Another 82 waste containers sent back to UK

Of the 242 containers of waste imported illegally from England to Sri Lanka, another 82 containers of waste were sent back to England today (06) by three ships departing from the Port of Colombo, said Customs Spokesman, Additional Director General of Customs Sunil Jaya.

Following the order of the Court of Appeal of Sri Lanka and a formal customs investigation by the Customs, it has been ordered to send the waste containers back to England.

Of the 112 containers of waste stored in a warehouse in the Port of Colombo, 82 containers were shipped back to England on the morning of 11/06.

Another 10 containers are due to be released tonight, the Customs spokesman said.
