Police Dept. Headquarters To Be Relocated To New Building In Dehiwala Citing "Space Issues" In Chatham Street Building

The Cabinet has decided to relocate the Police Department headquarters to a 14-acre land in Pepiliyana Road, Dehiwala.

The Cabinet decision stated that the decision was made as the current building had limited space and could not accommodate the expansion of the department.

The Department is currently housed at a 100-year-old building in Chatham Street, Colombo Fort.

As a result, several divisions of the department are currently being housed at buildings rented out by the police.

The Pepiliyana Road land is owned by the Police Department and the government's development plan for the Chatham Steet building is not yet clear.
