Former JVP MPs Handunnetti And Samarasinghe File Writ Petition Against Transfer Of "Yugadanavi" Shares To US Company

Former JVP MPs Sunil Handunnetti and Wasantha Samarasinghe today filed a Writ petition today against the Cabinet decision to hand over 40 per cent of the government-owned shares in the Kerawalapitiya Yugadanavi Thermal Power Plant to a US-based company.

The petition was filed through Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala.

The petition names 43 persons, including Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Cabinet, the Ceylon Electricity Board, West Coast Power Pvt. as respondents.

The petitioners have asked the Court of Appeal to quash the decision taken by the Cabinet on September 6 and to issue a Vandamus Writ Order to the respondents restraining them from taking action on the matter till the conclusion of their hearing.
