The FR petition filed by General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara seeking an order quashing the Cabinet decision to transfer 40 percent of the government stake in the Kerawalapitiya Yugadanavi Thermal Power Plant to the New Fortress Company of America will be considered on the 12th of this month.

The petition was taken up before a bench of Justices Murdu Fernando, Kumuduni Wickramasinghe and Mahinda Samayawardena.

The petition names 54 members of the Cabinet, including Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, West Coast Power (Pvt) Ltd, New Fortress in New York and the Attorney General.

The JVP and several other civil society organisations have also challenged the agreement in the Supreme Court.
