Inclement Weather Batters Sri Lanka: 2,12,060 People In 17 District Affected By Floods And Landslides

The Disaster Management Center says that 2,12,060 people belonging to 60,264 families in 17 districts of the country have been affected by floods, landslides, lightning and winds caused by heavy rains for several days.

As a result of the disaster, 25 people have been killed and 50,166 people from 13,671 displaced families are staying in shelters and relatives' houses, said Assistant Director (Media) of the Disaster Management Center, Pradeep Kodippili.

The districts of Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Matale, Gampaha, Mullaitivu, Colombo, Vavuniya, Mannar, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Galle, Kegalle, Kilinochchi and Kurunegala have been affected by the disaster, he said.

The worst affected district is Puttalam where 1,32,375 people belonging to 38,298 families have been affected.

In those districts 23 houses were completely destroyed and another 1,229 houses were partially damaged.
