Former Prime Minister and UNP MP Ranil Wickremesinghe has said in Parliament that a set of rules is needed to deal with the conduct of parliamentarians.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said it was widely acknowledged that the quality of parliament needed to be improved, adding that the dignity had been severely eroded over the past few decades.

The former Prime Minister said it was important to maintain public respect for Parliament, as it has become a matterof concern for many.

Wickremesinghe also said that it was important to introduce a proper methodology to assess the country's economy and that the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank should submit the relevant economic statistics to Parliament.
