21st Amendment Presented To Cabinet: Ministers Decide To Obtain Views Of Party Leaders Within A Week

The proposed draft of the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was presented to the Cabinet of Ministers a short while ago.

The Cabinet decided to seek observations from the party leaders within a week and to take it up again at the next Cabinet meeting.

The proposed constitutional amendment was one main condition under which Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe accepted premiership in the current government.

Minister Harin Fernando, who joined the government early this week, said he would quit the government if the draft amendment was not presented to the Cabinet today.
