Diana Gamage’s parliamentary seat in jeopardy

A petition has been filed before the Court of Appeal requesting the issuance of a writ to revoke State Minister Diana Gamage's position as a Member of Parliament.

The petition has been filed by a social activist Oshala Herath and it has been stated that State Minister Diana Gamage is a holder of British citizenship.

The petitioner has noted that according to the Constitution of the country, such a person is not qualified to hold the position of Member of Parliament and it is against the law, and therefore requested a writ of annulment be issued to rule that she is not qualified to hold the position of Member of Parliament.

Minister of State Diana Gamage, Controller of Immigration and Emigration, Minister of Public Security, General Secretary of Samagi Janabalawega MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara, the Election Commission and its members, and the Secretary General of Parliament have been named as respondents.
